Kate Middleton Has a Very Good Reason for Not Joining Prince William's Royal Tour of Jordan
Prince William is currently on a solo royal tour of the Middle East, visiting Jordan, Israel, and Palestine during the five-day trip. And according to William, his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, laments not accompanying her husband on the tour, but has a good reason for her absence: motherhood comes first.
According toPeople, Prince William said at a gathering shortly after his arrival in Jordan on Sunday that Duchess Kate is "very sorry she cannot be here with me so soon after the birth of our son Louis [on April 23], but her family remembers very fondly the almost three years she spent here as a child when her father worked for British Airways in Amman."
He continued, “Catherine’s experience is not unique—the interchange between our two countries is real and deep: work, study, tourism and family links.”
Duchess Kate gave birth to the couple's third child just over two months ago, and has had to miss other engagements recently; she chose not to attend the 2019 Royal Ascot, but did not miss Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding in May, of course. She also attended the Trooping the Colour, marking Queen Elizabeth's birthday, earlier this month.
Prince William told reporters in Jordan that he one day hopes to return to the country with the Duchess and all of their children. "We will have to bring the kids next time," he said, according to a tweet shared byThe Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English.
But although Duchess Kate was not in Jordan in person, she was there in spirit. Kensington Palace shared that Prince William recreated an old photo the Middletons took in Jerash when Kate just four years old. English also captured the moment on video.
"Prince William in one of those random moments you only get on a royal tour—standing at the rock where his wife played as a child 30 years earlier," English wrote. "And a giant picture of that moment for posterity!"
According toHello!,the Middletons moved to Jordan in May 1984, when Kate was two, after her father, Michael Middleton, accepted a job as a British Airways manager in the capital city of Amman. The family reportedly returned to Berkshire, England, in 1986.
Rania Malki, chief executive of Save The Children in Jordan, shared with Prince William that her children's pediatrician currently lives in Kate's old house,Hello!reports.
"No way!" William responded. "She will be thrilled. She loved it here, she really did.
