How to Draw a Fortune Cookie
A fortune cookie is commonly served as dessert in Chinese restaurants across the U.S. It usually contains a wise saying or prediction, like "A pleasant surprise is in store for you." This tutorial will show you how to easily draw a fortune cookie.
Sketch a cone shape, as seen here.It should be rounded at the bottom, pointed at the top. No need to make it especially detailed or three-dimensional yet--that part will come later.
Make a line sloping down the right side of the cone.At this point it should look a bit like a tent or napkin folded origami-style on your plate.
Outline the shape of the cookie with a neat line.Draw a piece of the cookie sticking out underneath it. This should be a thin layer around the left edge that stops just a bit before the edge of what you've already drawn.
Add a piece of narrow paper sticking out from the cookie. It should overlap the portion you just drew that's underneath.
- Write a fortune on the piece of paper. Make it whatever you want!
Line the drawing with black ink.Try to make a modular line--passing from a thin line to a thick line and vice versa. This will make your drawing look better and a bit more professional.
Erase the pencil from your drawing and start adding color.Use a flat coloring style (this is a suitable style for beginners), or add more details, such as shades and structure if you're more advanced.
QuestionWhat can I trace around to make the rounded cone shape?Community AnswerYou don't need to trace. Draw a simple triangle, and add a curve to the bottom edge. Thanks!
- Make the fortune advice somewhat vague or unclear, like a riddle, traditional saying, or a metaphor. Examples include "That which smells like an onion will soon smell like a rose," "Your life will be happy if you remain happy," and "One who follows the roads of Destiny rarely crosses the roads of others." You can come up with your own, too; be creative!
